After searching in uncuntable sites for release dates I found many, but MANY possible release dates so I'll just make it short for you from the closest one to the furthest one:

Note: These are NOT official release dates given by Square-Enix, Square still has not announced anything about Fabula Nova Crystallis yet. But we'll keep you updated as soon as something is announced

There was a rumor going around that FFXIII would have a split screen gameplay. well after searching far and wide, i belive this rumor to be fake. The rumor sprang from some footage of ff13, althou it does show a split screen scene, i belive it was just a cut scene.

Here's a recent (maybe not too recent) information about FFXIII and FFversusXIII.
Aparently they removed the famous Random Battles that caracterized FF since its beginnings until FFXI and FFXII.
In my opinion... I think the Random Battles made FF from the way it is from very first one, it was better, I'm not saying that the new battle system is bad, but FF is changing a lot... for good I belive. I'm a true FF fan and I agree with all the productive decisions they take, I don't have any single thing against any FF.
I said that because if you read well there, it says "Random battles gone for good", I don't think the same... even though this new system looks pretty interesting
